Cream Cheese Wontons

In just a matter of minutes, you can create your own fried cream cheese wontons at home.

We love take out, I just don’t always love the price especially with my large family. I thought it would be so much fun to make cream cheese wontons myself…. and so here we are. Delicious, crunchy and creamy, these wontons are a HIT. Gonna make them a lot I believe. Here’s my easy, recipe.

Cream Cheese Wontons

14 oz. package fresh wonton wrappers

8 oz. whipped cream cheese

1 tbsp. soy sauce

1/2 tsp. garlic powder

1/2 tsp. ginger powder

3 green onions diced

Vegetable or peanut oil for frying

Preheat a medium skillet with some oil, about 1″ deep over medium high heat.

In a small bowl combine the cream cheese, soy sauce, garlic & ginger, and dice the onions and add them too. Mix together until really well combined. Set aside for 5 minutes to let the flavors come together.

Set your wonton wrappers in a single layer on a cutting board to prepare for the filling. Get a small bowl, and fill it with water, set aside.

Making an assembly line streamlines the process.

Use a spoon, and place a teaspoon of filling in the middle of each wonton wrapper. Dip your finger in the water bowl, only needing a little bit of water, think less is more, and trace your finger along 2 of the 4 sides of the square. Fold over the wet two sides, to the dry two sides forming a triangle with the filling in the middle. Keeping the filling in the middle, seal the wonton tightly with your fingers or a fork, and set aside. Repeat until all wontons are filled.

Once the wontons are filled, place a few in the hot oil, about 350 degrees, watching, and flipping over once they turn golden. Don’t crowd the pan. If the oil is too hot, they will cook almost too quickly. Remove from the oil once both sides are golden, and repeat until all are cooked. They will stay hot for a while, so no need to worry. We drained ours on a paper towel as they were cooling. We ate the whole batch too. Haha.

Yum. Happy dinnertime. XO
