Fresh Handmade Tortillas

There’s nothing like fresh tortillas.

Would you believe I’ve had this recipe for years and NEVER made it until now? I mean. WHY? WHAT WAS I THINKING? Now in just a matter of a couple weeks, Cami is our resident tortilla pro. PLUS no more buying fresh tortillas from the store, which will save me a whopping $20 per month. SO husband is happy 2x over. Fresh is best.

Fresh Flour Tortillas

3 cups flour

3/4 tsp. baking powder

1 tsp. kosher salt

3/4 cup shortening

1 1/2 cup hot water

Mix the dry ingredients together. Cut in the shortening using a pastry cutter or two knives.

While mixing on low (in your Kitchen Aid or other mixer), Add enough water, a little at a time, until the dough has a soft consistency. And is not sticky.

Divide the dough into 12 pieces. Roll the single piece of dough, on a lightly floured surface, until thin, almost see-through. Cook in a dry hot skillet over medium heat, until bubbly, then flip over and cook on the other side. The tortillas should be cooked through, and golden. Repeat and cook the remaining tortillas.

Easy. Effortless. Fool proof tortillas.

Happy Baking! XO
